We’ve got a brand new bookshop in Charlotte Square Gardens this year – The Garden Bookshop – with over 5,000 titles for children and young people available, it hosts one of the largest ranges in the UK. Offering a warm welcome with plenty of cosy reading corners, it’s the perfect place for pupils to explore the depth and quality of children’s publishing today.

Our bookshops are independent and every penny of profit from booksales goes straight back towards the maintenance and development of the Book Festival. We want every school pupil to love books as much as we do, with special discounts and offers, why not drop in and discover a new favourite read?

Visit our new Garden Bookshop

The Baillie Gifford Children’s Area features an extensive selection of books for children and teenagers, including all the titles in the Baillie Gifford Schools Programme together in one place for you to find easily.

We recommend pupils browse the bookshop in the hour following your event. Please note that during exceptionally busy times in the bookshop, our schools booksellers may ask your class to wait a short while before entering.

Ask our dedicated schools booksellers

Our staff of experienced booksellers also include some school specialists. They will be on hand to ensure your pupils enjoy their visit to the bookshop and to answer any questions.

Making books more affordable for pupils and schools

Pupils will get so much more from their Book Festival experience if they are able to read the relevant books beforehand, we want to make this easier for schools to achieve.

25% off books for schools
Schools attending the Book Festival can order books from us in advance of their visit at a 25% discount and with free postage and packing (minimum order five copies of same book). Simply fill in the Book Order Form and send it back to us.

£3 Baillie Gifford book voucher for every pupil
Every child attending the Baillie Gifford Schools Programme will receive a voucher worth £3 to put towards the cost of a book of their choice in one of the Book Festival bookshops.

Free books on Baillie Gifford Gala Day
Every pupil attending an event on the Baillie Gifford Gala Day (27 August 2019) will receive a special goody bag. Each school will also be given a selection of books for their school library.

See your book reviews on display

We know that writing book reviews helps children to engage more deeply with what they’re reading, whilst also improving their spelling and writing skills. Send us your pupils’ book reviews and we will display a selection of our favourite ones in The Garden Bookshop. The best book reviewers will also receive £10 Book Festival book vouchers for their school.
