Event Highlights for High Schools
Lucy Christopher & Keren David: Stranger Things (S4 – S6)
Thursday 23 August, 12.15pm
Meet the authors behind two unusual and gripping tales and ask them your burning questions. Lucy Christopher’s Storm-wake reimagines Shakespeare’s The Tempest, so is a great way to introduce your pupils to Shakespeare in a fun, accessible way.
Clémentine Beauvais & Sarah Crossan: Highly Verse-atile (S1 – S3)
Monday 20 August, 1.30pm
How difficult is it to write a book entirely in verse? Find out as you explore Clémentine Beauvais’ In Paris With You and Sarah Crossan’s Moonrise, and be inspired to write your own emotive tale using a different form.
Dystopian Worlds with Hayley Barker & William Sutcliffe (S1 – S3)

Two hugely talented writers set pulses racing with their fantastic dystopian fiction. In this event, Hayler Barker and William Sutcliffe explore important themes covered in their books including the ethics of surveillance and divisions within society.
David Leddy: Direct Messages (S5 – S6)
Wednesday 22 August, 12.15pm
Artistic Director of Fire Exit Theatre Company, David Leddy has created an innovative new novella delivered straight to readers’ phones in a series of WhatsApp messages. Come along to hear him explore this exciting project and think about how social media is rewriting social interaction.
Taran Matharu & Martin Stewart (S1 – S3)
Tuesday 21 August, 1.30pm
Learn techniques to help you create and edit stories set in imagined worlds with The Outcast author, Taran Matharu, and writer of The Sacrifice Box, Martin Stewart. Taran began the first book in his bestselling Summoner series while taking part in NaNoWriMo back in 2013. Why not take part yourself and maybe one day you will appear on a Book Festival stage?
