Last week, in the Book Festival’s Schools ebulletin (which you can sign up for by clicking here), our Creative Learning Manager, Catherine Jones picked the top five picture book events for you to look out for in this year’s Schools Programme, perfect for younger primary school pupils. In case you missed it, here’s her selection:
1. Meet Fred with Chloë Inkpen – Friday 25 August, 12.15pm (P1-P3)
Have you ever read one of the much-loved Kipper books by Mick Inkpen? Mick has now co-authored Fred with his daughter Chloë Inkpen. She joins us to introduce this energetic rhyming adventure about a naughty puppy who won’t stop running away.
2. I Want… Tony Ross! – Monday 21 August, 11.45am (P1-P3)
Bestselling author and illustrator Tony Ross brings to life his hilarious Little Princess character from beloved books I Want My Potty! and I Want My Dummy! with live drawing and stories.
3. Animal Animations with Jim Field – Monday 28 August, 11.30am (P1-P2)
Get top drawing tips from multi award-winning illustrator Jim Field as he live draws from some of his bestselling books, including Oi Cat!, The Lion Inside and Rabbit & Bear.
4. Messy Moggies with Kasia Matyjaszek – Monday 21 August, 12.00pm (P1-P3)
Help author-illustrator Kasia Matyjaszek create a giant mural of Stockton, the main character in her new book I am a very Clever Cat, using wool, collage and messy art as she introduces you to her colourful tales.
5. Emma Yarlett: Book Monster – Friday 25 August, 10.00am (P1-P3)
Nibbles the Book Monster loves nibbling his way through books. Can you help his creator Emma Yarlett catch him and return him back to his own story? An interactive event packed full of fairytales, fun and crafting.
