Codename F event reveal – Tense Thrillers with Sarah Mussi & Nikesh Shukla

As part of Scotland’s Year of Young People 2018, Book Festival staff have been working with a group of school pupils aged 8-14 from Craigmillar in Edinburgh to co-curate a strand of events exploring the concept of freedom. The name the young people have chosen for their strand is Codename F

The Codename F young programmers have designed 9 events across the Book Festival’s public adult and children’s programmes, and the programme for schools. In a series of posts, the young people (and some of the authors featured) explain the reasoning behind their decisions.

Tense Thrillers with Sarah Mussi & Nikesh Shukla
Saturday 25 August, 17:45 – 18:45
Garden Theatre (Charlotte Square Gardens)
£5.00 – Tickets available here from Tues 26 June

You’ll be on the edge of your seat as you hear from two authors of tense thrillers. Freedoms are tested in Sarah Mussi’s Angel Dust and Breakdown as life and love are at stake. Nikesh Shukla’s Run, Riot is centred around two teenagers who witness the police shooting an unarmed man and find themselves running from those who are meant to protect them. An event guaranteed to get your heart racing.

Codename F programmer Jonathan Watton is excited for the pairing of Sarah and Nikesh as he’s a:

…big fan of action-packed and tense novels. I love Sarah Mussi and her books.

With Nikesh’s novel revolving around the current state of the American police force and the conflict with young people from a diverse range of backgrounds, this event is sure to bring about interesting questions on the topic of freedom and diversity.

Author Sarah Mussi is ‘honoured’ to be a part of the Codename F strand:

I am totally thrilled and privileged to have been invited to take part in the strand of the festival that involves young co-programmers. It is so imperative that young people are involved and their voices heard. Liberty and the theme of freedom are passions that have driven my work and if anything I’ve written speaks to the young, then that is the best reward I could have hoped for.

Come along to join in the discussion on Saturday 25 August. Tickets cost £5.00 and we recommend booking in advance.
