Our Creative Learning Manager, Catherine Jones, has selected her top five events for primary school pupils to look out for as part of the Baillie Gifford Schools Programme 2018.

Event Picks for Primary Classes

1. Andrea Pippins: Illustrating the Inspirational (P3 – P6)
Friday 24 August, 12.15pm-1.15pm
Using bold and colourful illustrations, Andrea Pippins introduces you to courageous and talented black men and women from history and the present day. Be inspired to get drawing and chase your own dreams.

2. Meet Gaspard the Fox with James Mayhew & Zeb Soanes (P1 – P3)
Friday 24 August, 10.30am
BBC broadcaster Zeb Soanes shares his charming picture book, Gaspard the Fox, teaching you all about urban foxes along the way. Plus, watch live drawing from the book’s illustrator James Mayhew.

3. Joseph Coelho: Making Memories (P1 – P2)
Tuesday 28 August (Baillie Gifford Gala Day), 11.45am
Learn how to create your own poem which records your special memories with engaging and dynamic performance poet Joseph Coelho. An uplifting and accessible event for little ones.

4. Charlotte Cotterill & Francesca Simon: Double Trouble (P1 – P3)
Monday 20 August, 12.15pm
Go on a Viking adventure with Horrid Henry creator Francesca Simon and talented illustrator Charlotte Cotterill. Expect an hour of historical hilarity as they introduce their brilliant tale about Viking toddler twins, Hack and Whack.

5. Reach for the Stars with James Carter (P1 – P3)
Wednesday 22 August, 12.15pm
A mix of storytelling, drama, music, science and verse with author, poet and musician James Carter. A fun, interactive, intergalactic adventure.
